Before you start

A dead battery in a UAE summer is more than an inconvenience — heat is hard on batteries, and breakdowns tend to happen in the worst car parks at the worst times. A jump starter in the glovebox means you're not waiting for a stranger with cables or a recovery truck.

Before touching anything, park safely, switch off the ignition and every accessory, and check your jump starter has charge — most show their level at the press of a button. Read your car's manual once at home so the day you need it isn't the day you learn it.

Jump-starting, step by step

The sequence is always the same: clamp red to the battery's positive terminal, black to a bare metal ground point away from the battery, then power on the jump starter and start the engine. Once the car is running, remove the clamps in reverse order and let the engine run to recharge the battery.

Modern units make this hard to get wrong — spark-proof clamps and reverse-polarity warnings are standard on everything we stock. The multi-function part is a bonus worth using: most double as power banks and torches, which is exactly what you want in a night-time breakdown.

Red to positive, black to ground, power on, start — then remove in reverse and let the engine run.
